Barcelona aim to sign Joao Cancelo permanently as Al-Hilal resists
Barcelona have indicated they intend to make the loan of right‑back Joao Cancelo permanent. The move is being pursued for the 2026/27 campaign, but Al‑Hilal have not yet agreed.
Cancelo arrived at Camp Nou on loan from Al‑Hilal in January. The loan runs until the end of the current season.
During the final weeks of the campaign he featured regularly and delivered performances that satisfied the Barcelona coaching staff. His contributions have been cited as a key factor in the club’s interest.
The Catalan side view Cancelo as part of their defensive plans for the upcoming season. Securing him would add experience to the right flank.
Al‑Hilal, however, have dug their heels in the negotiations, complicating the permanent transfer. Their stance has stalled progress on finalising a deal.
Both clubs remain in talks, and the final outcome will determine Cancelo’s future beyond the loan spell. Barcelona’s next steps will depend on the resolution of the outstanding issues.
