However, Barcelona first have to sell players to avoid a possible minimum wage cap, making a transfer more difficult. SPORT nevertheless states that Baas is well suited for Barcelona. The fact that Baas has come through Ajax’s youth academy fits well with Barcelona’s profile.

The Spanish outlet reports strong competition from the Premier League and the Bundesliga. Lisandro Martínez, the Argentine with an expiring contract at Manchester United, is also mentioned as a possible candidate.

Last summer there was already talk of a possible departure of Baas from Ajax. Reported at the start of the season that Baas can in principle leave Ajax. Ajax is open to a departure, partly because of the vision of technical director Dies Janse, who sees Baas as the natural successor to Daley Blind. “Within the club he is seen as the natural successor to Daley Blind. Exactly that development makes a potential departure of Baas this summer more understandable,” it said.

Baas was, among other things, of interest to German side Eintracht Frankfurt, but no concrete negotiations materialised.
