Barcelona's Anthony Gordon eyes dream El Clasico debut

On Sunday, the Spotify Camp Nou will host the season’s marquee clash as Barcelona prepare to face Real Madrid. The 25‑year‑old England international, Anthony Gordon, says the occasion feels like a childhood fantasy realised.
Club officials have hinted that as many as eight Barça players could be in contention to make their debut in the fixture, underscoring the depth of options for the manager.
Gordon describes the El Clasico dream
Speaking to Diario AS, Gordon called the match “the most important match in football – the two biggest teams on the planet”. He added, “I’ve watched these matches since I was little. Every child dreams of playing in this game.”
The former Newcastle United winger says he has adapted seamlessly to the Blaugrana colours and is determined to keep Barcelona’s momentum alive after a recent Champions League disappointment.
Preparation challenges and upcoming clash
Gordon admitted the defeat to PSG was “difficult” and that the French side were physically superior. He also revealed that “we had a very difficult flight and things that people don’t know about”, suggesting preparations have not been ideal.
Flick trusts the refereeing ahead of El Clasico against Real Madrid
He noted that nothing about Barcelona has surprised him yet, highlighting the contrast between La Liga and the Premier League. “I’ve started well, which is quite unusual for me,” he said.
Looking ahead, Gordon expects a fiercely competitive encounter with Real Madrid. “Real Madrid spent a lot in the summer. I expect a very competitive match. They have a great squad,” he observed.
His pace, direct running and willingness to press provide Barcelona with an important weapon against Madrid’s defence, according to the club’s coaching staff.
As the night approaches, the Englishman remains eager to turn his long‑held dream into reality, hoping to deliver an impressive performance against Jose Mourinho’s side.
