Barcelona’s €20m gamble on Adeyemi tests Dortmund’s valuation
Barcelona have reached an agreement with 24‑year‑old Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi, with the Catalan side offering roughly €20 million for the German attacker who has one year left on his BVB contract in a long‑term deal this summer as reported.
Barcelona target Adeyemi because of his production at RB Salzburg and Dortmund. He scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 39 appearances across all competitions last season after joining from RB Salzburg in 2022 for €33m. Overall, he has 23 goals and 17 assists in 98 Bundesliga matches, indicating his consistent impact.
Should Adeyemi leave Dortmund this summer, the German club is expected to intensify its pursuit of Cologne’s Said El Mala, a 19‑year‑old prospect. Dortmund, known as the Black and Yellows, are put off by the player’s reported €50m valuation and remain keen to recoup at least the €33m they originally paid. The club’s one‑year‑left contract on the BVB side adds urgency to any potential departure.
For Barcelona, securing Adeyemi at around €20m represents a significant discount to Dortmund’s asking price and aligns with their strategy of acquiring young talent. The Catalan side hopes the long‑term deal will bolster their attacking options as they compete domestically and in Europe. The report was compiled by Brook Genene.
Although Barcelona have reached an agreement in principle, the two clubs are still negotiating the final terms, with the Catalan side still far from Dortmund’s valuation. Sky Germany reported that Dortmund expects at least the €33m fee they originally paid, while Barcelona’s €20m offer reflects their assessment of Adeyemi’s market value.
