Barcelona's €2.9 million FIFA payout highlights new World Cup fund model

🇪🇸 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

In the bustling finance office of FC Barcelona, officials are preparing to record a €2,893,533 payment from FIFA for releasing its international players during the 2026 World Cup, a sum that reflects the club’s extensive contribution to the tournament and will be entered into the club’s financial ledger.

According to Mundo Deportivo, FIFA’s revised Club Benefits Programme will hand Barça €2,893,533, a figure that mirrors the club’s significant presence on the international stage.

The programme’s redesign aims to distribute funds more evenly among clubs worldwide, expanding the reach of compensation beyond the traditional powerhouses.

Barcelona fielded 16 players from the start of the tournament’s final phase, yet the payout is markedly lower than the €4.43 million the club collected after the Qatar World Cup in 2022.

The reduction underscores the impact of FIFA’s altered distribution model on clubs that contribute heavily to the World Cup roster.

FIFA has divided the Club Benefits Programme into two separate funds – one rewarding clubs for players called up during the qualification campaign and a larger share for participation in the World Cup finals.

Under the qualification component, clubs receive €2,045 per player for each national‑team call‑up, regardless of whether the player steps onto the pitch; Barcelona secured €153,375 from this part of the programme alone.

Brazil winger Raphinha contributed notably, being called up for 13 qualifying matches, which generated €26,585 for Barcelona before the tournament began.

For the finals, FIFA pays a daily amount of €4,330 per player from the opening day of each national team’s training camp until the day after its final match, a rate lower than the one used in Qatar, meaning clubs like Barcelona receive a smaller share despite supplying numerous internationals.
