Barcelona loans promising keeper Kochen to Lyngby for a season
FC Barcelona have sent 20‑year‑old goalkeeper Diego Kochen on a season‑long loan to Danish side Lyngby Boldklub, with a €1.5 million purchase option and a 40 % sell‑on clause, the deal running until 30 June 2027 as the United States shot‑stopper looks for regular first‑team football.
The club statement read: "FC Barcelona and Lyngby Boldklub have reached an agreement for the loan of Barça Atletic goalkeeper Diego Kochen for one season with an option to buy, until June 30, 2027." Lyngby Boldklub, freshly promoted to the Danish top‑flight, will host the United States goalkeeper for the 2024‑25 campaign.
Lyngby’s interest is driven by Kochen’s reputation as one of the best goalkeeping prospects to emerge from Barcelona’s La Masia academy, where he has trained since 2019. The 20‑year‑old’s seven‑year development at the Catalan club equips him with technical training that Lyngby hopes will strengthen their defensive line in the Superliga.
At Barcelona, Kochen served as the third‑choice custodian for Hansi Flick’s first team last season. Simultaneously, he started matches for Juliano Belletti’s Barça Atletic side, gaining valuable game time in the reserve league.
With no realistic chance of breaking into Barcelona’s senior lineup, Kochen opted for a move to Lyngby to secure regular first‑team football. An earlier agreement was delayed by paperwork issues, which have now been resolved, clearing the way for the loan.
The loan offers Kochen the platform to showcase his abilities in a top‑flight environment, potentially accelerating his development. For Barcelona, the arrangement includes a €1.5 million purchase option and a 40 % future sell‑on clause, preserving a financial stake should Kochen’s value rise.
