AZ clinch regional star Stengs, hailed as one of three hidden gems

🇳🇱 By 4AllFootball ·

Calvin Stengs, 27, terminated his contract with Feyenoord last week and has signed for AZ in Alkmaar, a move praised by former Alkmaarders defender Timo Letschert as a “fantastic step” for the regional talent. The 27‑year‑old midfielder‑right‑winger ended his contract with Feyenoord last week and then completed a move to AZ in Alkmaar.

Former Alkmaarders defender Timo Letschert said, “I am very happy for Calvin Stengs"”. He called the transfer a fantastic step for the player.

Letschert added that Stengs is from the region and can now work comfortably at AZ. He said Stengs was one of three gems alongside Wijndal and Boadu. He noted the player had suffered knee misfortune but now has an ideal environment to regain fitness.

Dennie van Laar, chief editor of VoetbalPrimeur, agreed with Letschert’s assessment. He suggested a possible reunion in Alkmaar if Parrott departs and Boadu returns on a free transfer. He also mentioned the potential return of Wijndal to bring the squad back together.

The remarks were shared on the #DoneDeal podcast produced by VoetbalPrimeur. The discussion highlighted the strategic value of Stengs’s signing for AZ.
