Anfield welcomes Udinese's surprise in the second European matchday

On October 4, 2012, at Anfield, Liverpool awaited Udinese in the second matchday of the Europa League group stage; Anfield ended with an unexpected result for the Reds.

First half in the Reds' favour

The Reds open quickly, Shelvey scores in the 22nd minute and closes the first half at 1‑0, leading to belief in an easy victory.

The coach Guidolin, however, decides to change Armero for Lazzari at halftime, hitting the right points for his team.

In the second half, in the 46th minute Di Natale equalises for Udinese, bringing the score to one‑one.

An own goal by Coates, a Uruguayan of Liverpool, puts the Friulian side ahead in the 70th minute, but two minutes later Di Natale assists Pasquale, who scores in the 72nd minute to bring the score to 1‑3.

Suarez reduces the gap in the 75th minute for Liverpool, but the result remains 2‑3, confirming Udinese as the fourth Italian team to conquer Anfield Road in Europe.

Scorers: 22' Shelvey, 46' Di Natale, 70' own goal Coates, 72' Pasquale, 75' Suarez.
