Amdouni celebrates double, misses hat‑trick, remains satisfied

Zeki Amdouni was the match-winner during the Nati's relaxed surge in the Nations League in Skopje, scoring a brace and providing an assist, but he missed the hat‑trick and was still satisfied.

Brace and missed hat‑trick

With two goals and an assist, Amdouni was the clear match-winner against North Macedonia. The 25‑year‑old Geneva native scored both goals in the first half, securing the decisive points for the Nati. Despite the strong performance, the sought‑after hat‑trick did not materialise, as he was denied the final chance at the end.

"For me that's great, especially because I got the chance to play from the start today. I gave everything and was rewarded for it," Amdouni said in the interview. "But I'm also very satisfied." His words underline that he sees the missed chance not as a failure but as motivation.

Shirt number 10 and way back

In the conversation Amdouni mentioned the shirt number 10 loaned by Granit Xhaka. "I liked wearing the number. But when Granit is back, he will of course get it again. It doesn't play such an important role for me," he explained.

He returned for the Swiss national team for the first time since June 2025, after missing almost nine months due to an injury. In the English Championship with Burnley, the high match load was exactly what he needed after the long lay‑off.

"The Championship is very physical and we play practically every three days. It's not easy, but that's exactly what I needed," Amdouni emphasized. He hopes to continue on the path he has started and contribute even more to the Nati.
