Alvarez’s kit omission fuels Barcelona chase amid Atletico’s stance

🇪🇸
Julian Alvarez was omitted from Atletico Madrid’s unveiling of their new 2026‑27 home kit, a move that has instantly sparked speculation about his future. The launch, held at the Metropolitano, featured the traditional red‑and‑white stripes and highlighted Marcos Llorente, Marc Pubill, Giuliano Simeone and Alex Baena, while the Argentine striker remains under contract until 2030 with a €500 million release clause. The kit launch generated unexpected discussion, with the focus shifting from the featured players to the notable absentee. Although several squad members were omitted from the promotional photos, they remain part of Diego Simeone’s plans. Alvarez’s omission carries extra weight after his recent comments expressing a desire to leave Atletico Madrid. His ambition to join another club has become one of the biggest summer stories. Barcelona continue to monitor the Argentine forward’s situation, linking him with a potential move to Camp Nou. Reports suggest Alvarez views Barça as his preferred destination. Atletico Madrid, however, are unwilling to sanction a transfer to another Spanish side and have no intention of strengthening a direct rival. The striker’s contract runs to 2030 and includes a €500 million release clause, giving the club a strong negotiating position. As a result, alternative destinations are beginning to emerge. Alvarez’s desire to wear the Blaugrana shirt still gives Barcelona an added advantage in the pursuit. A photo of the launch, taken by Eric Alonso, circulated widely.
