Adi Hütter’s Handkäse blunder tests his Frankfurt welcome

Eintracht Frankfurt’s newly-installed head coach Adi Hütter embarrassed himself at the club’s traditional Handkäse breakfast by eating the regional cheese with the wrong utensil, sparking jokes from fans and media alike during a promotional event organised by the club’s sponsor SGE, highlighting the cultural importance of the dish in Hesse.

The event, known locally as the Handkäse Frühstück, celebrates a small, firm sour‑milk cheese made from low‑fat quark that ripens into a pungent, translucent yellow product with a strong aroma and a tangy, slightly sharp flavour. The cheese is strongly associated with the Hessian state, especially the Frankfurt and Rhine‑Main areas.

A common local joke, “Handkäse mit Musik”, refers to the cacophonous sounds linked to its preparation and the odorous after‑effects of digestion. reporter Julian Franzke quipped that the new Eintracht signings should hope the “coming of the music” does not coincide with the club medical staff.
