€6m release clause triggers Liberali’s move to Como
Officially confirmed, Italy Under‑20 international Mattia Liberali has signed for Como until June 2031, activating his €6 million release clause after rejecting a return to AC Milan. The 19‑year‑old creative midfielder will join the Serie B side for the upcoming season.
“It’s a real thrill to be able to start my journey at Como,” Liberali told the club website. He added that the project fits his ambitions and that he feels the club shares his desire to develop further.
“I’m really keen to develop and improve, and I’ve found we share a lot of common ground with the club in this regard. I’ve also spoken to the manager, and I think the playing philosophy is perfect for me. I can’t wait to take to the pitch at the Sinigaglia and meet the fans,” he said, emphasizing his excitement about the home stadium.
Liberali turned 19 in April and has represented ITALY at Under‑20 level, as well as earlier youth categories. A product of the Milan youth academy, he left the Rossoneri last summer after realizing there would be no immediate senior playing time.
Como activated the €6 million release clause to bring him from Catanzaro, where he had joined effectively for nothing. Milan still retain a 50 percent future‑sale entitlement, and reports suggested the club tried to re‑sign him for €3 million, but Liberali opted for the Como project under Cesc Fabregas.
Coach Cesc Fabregas praised the newcomer, stating: “Mattia is a creative player with excellent technical ability and confidence in possession. He can operate in tight spaces, create chances and contribute in the final third. We believe his qualities fit our style and look forward to helping him continue his development.”
Last season, Liberali recorded four goals and four assists in 30 Serie B appearances for Catanzaro. His new contract runs until June 2031, giving him a long‑term platform to grow at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.
