€138 million investment brings Como closer to Manchester United

€138 million investment brings Como closer to Manchester United

This afternoon, at the Sinigaglia, Como hosts Manchester United in a match that pits two seemingly distant realities against each other. The Italian club, led by Cesc Fabregas, has invested about €138 million, while the English club of Michael Carrick has spent about £163 million.

Investments that narrow the gap

Often the names suggest a huge distance, but today's comparison shows the opposite. On one side there is one of the most prestigious and wealthy clubs in world football, on the other a club that returned to Serie A only in 2024. Last summer's market has already shortened the gap between the two realities.

Como, under Cesc Fabregas, has allocated about €138 million for new signings. The biggest deal was for Nico Paz, followed by the arrivals of Moise Kean and Trevoh Chalobah, in a campaign described as ambitious.

Manchester United, under Michael Carrick, has spent about £163 million, equivalent to €185‑190 million. The main investments were directed at Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Last summer Fabregas had at his disposal investments amounting to roughly three quarters of those of United. This figure highlights how the spending gap has considerably narrowed.

The history of the two clubs remains incomparable in terms of size, revenue and international following. However, in the market the gap has narrowed, making today's showdown more financially balanced.

The Sinigaglia will see two worlds, far apart in tradition, but much closer in terms of what has been spent to build the squads that will face each other on the pitch. A match that promises to test the ambitions of both realities.
