Southend United bet on Merthyr midfielder Lewys Twamley

Southend United have secured Merthyr Town midfielder Lewys Twamley on a two‑year contract, with a club option for a third year, after the 22‑year‑old recorded 16 goals in 46 National League North appearances last season and demonstrated over 30 goal involvements overall.

Twamley's 16‑goal haul and more than 30 direct goal involvements caught the attention of Southend United's recruitment staff. Shrimpers manager Kieron Dyer praised the midfielder, saying his season was remarkable and such involvement is truly incredible.

The 22‑year‑old is also a former Wales Under‑19 international, adding a pedigree of youth international experience. Twamley began his senior career at Newport County before moving to Merthyr Town, where he established himself in the National League North.

For Southend United, the signing provides a young attacking option capable of contributing goals from midfield. Twamley gains a two‑year platform, with a third‑year extension, to prove himself at a higher level and further his development.
