Milan’s €74m gamble on Ramos versus Gimenez’s shaky stay
AC Milan have broken their transfer record by splashing €74 million on Portuguese striker Gonçalo Ramos, while the club’s recent acquisition Santiago Gimenez finds his future in Milan increasingly uncertain after a modest return of seven goals in 37 appearances and six assists.
AC Milan presented Gonçalo Ramos as their newest signing. The Rossoneri will pay €74 million, establishing him as the most expensive player in the club’s history.
Ramos departs Paris Saint-Germain, where he featured in 131 matches, scoring 45 goals and providing 10 assists. Prior to that he spent three seasons at Benfica, tallying 41 goals and 12 assists in 106 games.
AC Milan’s €80m gamble on Gonçalo Ramos: a long‑term strike boost
Paris Saint‑Germain originally secured Ramos in the summer of 2024 for €65 million. After two seasons the French side records a profit on the deal. The €74 million outlay eclipses AC Milan’s previous record, which belonged to Rafael Leão. Milan bought Leão from LOSC Lille in the 2019/2020 season for just under €50 million. Meanwhile, former Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, signed at the end of February 2025 for just over €30 million, has struggled to find form. In 37 appearances he has netted seven times and contributed six assists. Rumours now link Gimenez with a possible exit as his relationship with AC Milan appears unsettled. The contrast between Ramos’ high‑profile arrival and Gimenez’s uncertain future underscores the club’s divergent transfer strategies.
