Lyon’s €2.2m gamble on Burkina Faso full‑back Ouédraogo

🇫🇷

Lyon Olympique Lyonnais have secured Burkina Faso international full‑back Mohamed Ouédraogo on a five‑year contract, paying a €2.2 million transfer fee to SCR Altach, with potential bonuses of €0.6 million and a 10 % future‑sale clause. The deal, announced on Monday, marks the club’s latest addition to its summer recruitment drive.

The agreement runs until 2030, binding Ouédraogo to the French side for five seasons. In addition to the base fee, Lyon may trigger up to €0.6 million in performance‑related bonuses and retain a ten‑percent share of any future transfer profit.

Born in Burkina Faso, Ouédraogo began his senior career with SC Majestic before moving to Europe in the winter of 2023. He progressed through the youth system at SCR Altach, eventually breaking into their first‑team squad.

During his spell with Altach’s senior side, Ouédraogo amassed 72 league appearances, scoring five goals. He also contributed four assists, showcasing his attacking mindset from the full‑back position.

In the 2025‑26 campaign, he featured in 35 matches across all competitions, netting four times. Three assists complemented his goal tally, and he emerged as one of Altach’s key performers.

Ouédraogo is a Burkina Faso international. He has earned nine caps for his country.

His arrival makes him Lyon’s fourth summer signing, joining Kaïl Boudache, Mads Bidstrup and Julien Duranville. The early influx of talent is intended to give Les Gones ample preparation time ahead of their Champions League qualifying rounds.

For Lyon, the Burkinabé full‑back adds depth and a proven attacking option to the defensive line. Léo Aschi reported the signing, highlighting the opportunity for Ouédraogo to develop at a higher level in French football.
