Liverpool's £40m price tag tests Nottingham Forest's ambitions
Liverpool have set a £40 million price tag on home‑grown midfielder Curtis Jones, signalling a firm stance in the summer market. Sporting director Richard Hughes, as reported by Ben Jacobs, confirmed the valuation while noting interest from Nottingham Forest and the club’s willingness to retain the player if the figure is not met.
Ben Jacobs reported that Richard Hughes has placed a valuation of around £40 million on Curtis Jones. The figure is intended to send a clear message to potential buyers and reflects Liverpool’s broader market approach.
Curtis Jones, a home‑grown midfielder in his mid‑twenties, has accumulated years of top‑level experience with Liverpool. Last season he saw limited opportunities and rarely featured in his preferred role.
With Andoni Iraola now leading Liverpool, there is belief that Jones could thrive in a system built on intensity, pressing and quick transitions. His willingness to carry the ball, retain possession under pressure and drive through midfield aligns with that style.
Ben Jacobs quoted that “Curtis Jones is a target for Nottingham Forest,” and that Vitor Pereira’s side are looking to strengthen the centre of the park after the £116 million departure of Elliot Anderson. He added that Inter recently made a £21.5 million approach which was instantly shut down.
Liverpool remain content to keep Jones if their asking price is not met, and the club has not ruled out new contract talks as he enters the final year of his deal. Ben Jacobs also noted that Forest have Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall high on their list, while Liverpool continue to link Alex Scott and Eduardo Camavinga as potential midfield replacements, albeit at higher costs.
