Italian claim Koeman will not quit as Dutch FA ponders future
Italian transfer journalist Nicolò Schira claims Ronald Koeman will not resign, even as the Dutch FA faces pressure after the Netherlands' round‑of‑32 penalty defeat to Morocco on June 29‑30. The KNVB, which had aimed for at least a semi‑final, will decide Koeman's future in the coming days.
Schira posted the message on social media, summarising it as “Ronald Koeman will not resign”. He added that Koeman is allowing the Dutch football association to determine his fate rather than taking the decision himself.
Koeman’s contract as national coach is set to expire after the 2026 World Cup, meaning his tenure extends beyond the current tournament cycle.
The Netherlands were eliminated in the round of 32 after a penalty shootout against Morocco on the night of Monday 29 June and Tuesday 30 June. The KNVB had set a minimum target of reaching the semi‑finals, a goal that was not met.

When asked by following the loss, Koeman said, “I have my thoughts about it, but this does not seem the moment to say it”. He refrained from confirming any immediate plans. Koeman returned to the Dutch national team in 2023 for his second spell as head coach, having previously led the side from 2018 to 2020 before a brief stint at FC Barcelona.Koeman texts agent after World Cup exit, talks slated for Tuesday
Across his two periods, Koeman has overseen 64 matches, recording 35 wins, 14 draws and 15 defeats. The contrast between Schira’s confident claim and the KNVB’s pending decision highlights the uncertainty surrounding Koeman’s future, with the federation expected to announce its verdict in the next few days.
