Fenerbahçe slams €50m rumor, denies any Greenwood talks

A reported €50 million offer for England forward Mason Greenwood was swiftly dismissed by Fenerbahçe Sports Club, which issued a firm statement that no member of its football committee is conducting transfer negotiations in France. The club's denial comes amid swirling rumors linking the striker with a move to Serie A side Roma.

Journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu claimed that Fenerbahçe had dispatched emissaries to France to finalize a deal close to €50 million for Greenwood. He suggested the Turkish side was actively pursuing the England forward.

Fenerbahçe responded, stating, “No one from our football committee is currently conducting transfer negotiations in France.” The club emphasized that the allegation does not reflect reality.

The club added, “The accusations made by journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu on social media do not reflect the truth.” It said the statement was necessary due to repeated false transfer news.

Fenerbahçe criticized former management, stating, “Fenerbahçe Sports Club has no problem with any member of the media who adheres to professional ethics and relies on accuracy.” It warned those who spread unconfirmed speculation that the club is no longer managed by such practices.

Referred to as the “yellow canaries,” the club condemned the circulation of fake news in recent days. It called for transparent communication with supporters.

The denial arrives as Roma intensifies its race to sign Greenwood, highlighting the player's high profile in the transfer market. Persistent rumors underscore the challenges clubs face in controlling misinformation.
