Barcelona’s financial crunch drives final‑hour deals on Fati and Christensen
Barcelona are working to confirm the sale of Ansu Fati to Monaco and the renewal of Andreas Christensen’s contract before 30 June, aiming to strengthen their financial position ahead of the new accounting period. The board hopes the deals will improve the club’s economic situation and give more flexibility in the transfer market.
Monaco are set to activate a purchase option valued at €11 million, sending Ansu Fati on a permanent move to the Ligue 1 side. The fee will be paid in two instalments, allowing Barcelona to record the income in the current financial year.
Fati already has a four‑year agreement with Monaco after a campaign in France in which he scored 11 goals. Completing the transfer before the end of June would provide an important boost to Barcelona’s accounts.
Andreas Christensen is poised to sign a two‑year contract extension with Barcelona, extending his stay for another two seasons. The agreement contains a clause permitting either party to terminate after the first year if circumstances change.
The renewal announcement is expected between Monday and Tuesday, with the official signing likely later in the week. Christensen will sign the contract in Joan Laporta’s office after the president is sworn in again on Wednesday, 1 July.
Joan Laporta and his management team are spending decisive hours at the Camp Nou offices to close these key pieces of business. The coming hours are seen as crucial for finalising both operations.
