Anderlecht secures Léo Pétrot until 2028, adds experience to defence
Léo Pétrot has signed a contract that runs until June 2028 with RSC Anderlecht, the 29‑year‑old left‑footed central defender arriving from Spanish top‑flight side Elche CF. The deal adds a physically imposing defender with Ligue 1 experience to the Belgian giants.
Pétrot is a product of the French academy at AS Saint‑Étienne, where he completed his youth development. He made his official professional debut with FC Lorient before returning to his formative club.
A year after his debut, he signed a three‑year contract with AS Saint‑Étienne and wore the green‑white shirt 99 times. He was part of the squad that secured promotion back to Ligue 1 for the 2023‑2024 season.
In total, Pétrot accumulated 53 Ligue 1 appearances before opting for his first overseas move last summer. He joined newly promoted Elche CF in Spain’s top division, where he featured in 36 league matches.
"RSC Anderlecht is for me the biggest club in Belgium. It is a club that shares the same ambitions and objectives as me, especially to compete for trophies and play on the European stage," Léo Pétrot said.
"I hope to help the club by bringing defensive stability within the squad and with all the experience I have built over the past years," he added.
Anderlecht announced that the 1.88‑metre defender brings a left‑footed option with physical presence and experience to the back line.
The Belgian side, under manager Sibierski, aims to make a strong impact in the upcoming season and plans to reinforce the squad with several new signings.
