Xabi Alonso Signs Four-Year Deal to Manage Chelsea

🇬🇧 17 May 2026

Xabi Alonso has been appointed manager of Chelsea and signed a four-year contract. He will take charge on 1 July, succeeding Liam Rosenior and relieving interim coach Calum McFarlane.

Alonso said he feels immense pride after signing the deal. The 44-year-old expressed confidence in the club’s direction.

Alonso has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid by mutual consent in January. The former Spanish international had not held a managerial role since his departure.

Before his brief stint in La Liga, Alonso spent three years as head coach of Bayer Leverkusen. He guided the German side to their first-ever league title.

During his tenure at Bayer Leverkusen, he also lifted the German Cup. The double success highlighted his ability to win trophies.

Alonso’s managerial résumé includes both domestic and European achievements. His experience is expected to shape Chelsea’s future.

The appointment marks a new chapter for both Alonso and the London club. Fans will watch closely as he begins his duties at Stamford Bridge.
