€30m Milan gamble leaves Giménez’s Porto move in doubt

🇮🇹

Santiago Giménez, the Mexican striker who cost AC Milan €30 million in the winter of 2025, will not be joining FC Porto, says Italian transfer specialist Nicolò Schira. The statement comes as clubs assess the value of a player who has struggled to make an impact.

Giménez has now been under contract with AC Milan for roughly one and a half years. In 37 appearances for the Italian side he has recorded seven goals and six assists, a modest return for a €30 million acquisition.

Last season his contribution dwindled further, with only one goal in eighteen matches. The dip in productivity has fueled speculation about his future and prompted interest from other clubs.

Rumours previously linked him with a move to FC Porto after Francesco Farioli reportedly showed interest. Prior to his Milan transfer, Giménez enjoyed a prolific spell at Feyenoord, netting forty‑five goals in seventy‑three Eredivisie games.

Schira clarified that Giménez is not a target for FC Porto, effectively dispelling the circulating transfer gossip. The Italian agent’s comment underscores the lack of concrete suitors despite the player’s earlier reputation.

Meanwhile, Giménez remains part of Mexico’s squad for the World Cup hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The 49‑time international is expected to serve as a reserve striker behind veteran Raúl Jiménez.

His situation highlights a market where clubs remain cautious about high‑cost signings that fail to deliver on the pitch, reinforcing the importance of performance over transfer fees in current transfer strategies.
