World Cup spotlight drives Lille to sign Orlando Gill

Paraguayan international goalkeeper Orlando Gill, 26, has officially completed his move to Lille OSC (LOSC) after capitalising on the exposure of the 2026 World Cup held in North America, with the club confirming the signing on the earlier Wednesday this week.

Gill featured for the Albirroja throughout the tournament, helping Paraguay knock out Germany in the round of 32 after a 1‑1 draw and a 4‑3 win on penalties. His World Cup adventure ended in the round of 16 when Paraguay fell 0‑1 to France.

Lille announced on Wednesday that the 26‑year‑old goalkeeper arrived from CA San Lorenzo. The French club paid an estimated €3.8 million for 50 % of his economic rights,

Depth and contract

Lille president Olivier Létang explained the signing as a move to add depth to the goalkeeper group for the European campaign. “The hierarchy within the goalkeepers of the squad is very clear, but Orlando’s arrival will allow us to offer depth to the group in this European season,” he said.

LOSC bolsters goalkeeping depth with Paraguayan hero Orlando Gill

The club presented Gill as a ‘doublure’ for first‑choice keeper Berke Özer. He signed a five‑year contract that runs until 2031.

The north‑based LOSC, nicknamed the Dogues, added the South American international to its roster. Gill arrives with 11 caps for Paraguay.
