Union SG races to secure former Jupiler Pro League keeper

Union SG have been forced to replace goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen after his move to Ipswich Town, and the Brussels club is now racing to secure former Jupiler Pro League keeper Hervé Koffi, with the loan reportedly finalised this Thursday as they prepare for the upcoming Supercup.

Kjell Scherpen departed for Ipswich Town earlier this week, leaving Union SG without a first‑choice goalkeeper. The Brusselaars have already named Vic Chambaere in the starting line‑up for the Supercup clash against Club Brugge on Friday.

Union SG’s board did not hesitate to begin the search for a replacement. La Derniére Heure reported that the club has placed Hervé Koffi as its absolute priority, targeting a loan arrangement from France.

Koffi was one of the standout shot‑stoppers in Ligue 1 last season after a fruitful loan spell at Angers. He is now seeking a new challenge because Lens did not include him in their plans.

Several clubs expressed concrete interest in the Burkinabe international. The Belgian vice‑champion, however, offered a more decisive loan structure that benefits all parties.

Union SG is on the verge of finalising the deal, with the contract expected to be signed at Dudenpark on Thursday. Once signed, Koffi vast will be eligible for the Champions League third‑qualifying round match against Bodø/Glimt.

He remains match‑fit, having featured on Wednesday evening against Crystal Palace. The signing would mark his third spell in België after previous periods at Moeskroen and Charleroi.
