Simeone clears path for Barcelona as Alvarez sale looms
Diego Simeone has granted Barcelona permission to pursue the summer sale of Argentine forward Julian Alvarez, with less than a week remaining in the transfer window and the Catalan club already holding an active €100 million offer for the 26‑year‑old striker.
Simeone clears path for sale
According to Gaston Edul, Diego Simeone has already given the green light for a potential departure of the Argentine forward. Simeone is growing tired of the distraction surrounding Julian Alvarez's future.
Joan Laporta confirmed that Barcelona have an active €100 million offer on the table for the 26‑year‑old. Negotiations are currently understood to be on standby as the window closes.
The Argentine forward does not want to return to England at this stage of his career. He has stated that remaining in Spain and joining Barcelona is his preferred destination.
Atletico Madrid block Barcelona, leave Alvarez for Arsenal
Arsenal have reportedly submitted a stronger financial proposal, offering around €120 million. The total package could rise to between €130 million and €135 million.
Atletico Madrid have maintained an institutional stance against strengthening a direct La Liga rival. An unofficial message has been sent that there is a 0% chance of Alvarez joining Barcelona.
Simeone’s reported willingness to sanction a sale suggests he is no longer determined to keep the player at all costs. He has accepted that selling Alvarez could be the best solution if the distraction continues to affect the club.
