Roma eye Garnacho loan, challenging Chelsea's €46.2m gamble
€46.2m paid for Alejandro Garnacho's transfer to Chelsea has resurfaced as Roma reportedly inquire about a loan move for the 22‑year‑old Argentine. The Serie A club is assessing his availability, with an option to buy on the table, as Chelsea's investment struggles to secure regular minutes.
Last summer, Garnacho was at the centre of a months‑long tug of war that ended with him rejecting a move to Napoli from Manchester United. The Argentine chose Chelsea's €46.2m offer instead, seeking a fresh start in the Premier League.
Since joining Chelsea, Garnacho has contributed eight goals and four assists across 43 competitive appearances. Only 22 of those outings saw him start, highlighting limited playing time under the current setup.
According to transfer pundit Alfredo Pedullà, Roma have approached Chelsea to explore a loan deal for Garnacho. Pedullà added that the arrangement could include an option to purchase the forward permanently.
Roma secured Champions League qualification for the first time in seven years, intensifying their need for a wide attacking talent. The loan target aligns with their ambition to compete at Europe’s highest level.
The club’s primary target remains Mason Greenwood, currently with Olympique Marseille, but his €50m asking price and high wages complicate the pursuit. Greenwood’s profile matches Roma’s desire for a versatile attacker.
Garnacho’s situation underscores the challenges clubs face when high‑fee signings fail to deliver consistent minutes, while inflated transfer fees and wage demands limit options for both buying and loaning clubs across Europe.
