Premier League eyes Karim Coulibaly: Chelsea join Bundesliga pursuit

🇬🇧

Chelsea have identified Werder Bremen defender Karim Coulibaly as a target for a potential move later this year. Journalist Fraser Fletcher reported the interest in the German defender, who has impressed in the Bundesliga.

Coulibaly played 27 matches for Werder Bremen last season, scoring once across multiple competitions. The 19-year-old has established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s standout young centre-backs, drawing attention from Premier League clubs.

His current contract with Werder Bremen runs until the summer of 2029, which complicates Chelsea’s pursuit. The Blues may face a competitive market for the defender’s services, given his long-term deal and rising profile.

The teenager’s defensive attributes include strong tackling, aerial dominance, and the ability to play out from the back. Standing at 1.91 metres, Coulibaly uses his physical frame to unsettle opposition attackers in aerial duels.

However, concerns remain over his adaptation to the Premier League’s intensity. Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso could integrate Coulibaly into the first team gradually, given his potential to develop into a regular starter at Stamford Bridge.

At 19, Coulibaly is viewed as a long-term prospect for English football. His development trajectory suggests he could become a key figure in Alonso’s defensive rebuild at Chelsea.
