Pierre Dwomoh handed 11-match ban for racist remarks at Watford

🇬🇧 yesterday

Pierre Dwomoh, a former player of RWDM and Royal Antwerp, has been suspended for 11 matches by the English Football Association after making racist remarks toward a teammate at Watford.

The suspension follows two separate incidents involving a U21 player of Indian heritage. On 27 October 2025, before a match against Swansea City, Dwomoh asked the player whether he was "black or light-skinned." When the player responded that he was "brown," Dwomoh replied: "Brown is not a colour." Days later, on 4 November 2025, ahead of a game against Colchester United, he asked the same player: "How are your corner shops doing?"

An independent commission found Dwomoh guilty of a "very serious" and "completely unacceptable" offence. The ruling noted that he did not initially take responsibility, failed to express remorse, and instead pressured the player to drop the complaint. He later admitted fault and issued an apology.

In addition to the 11-match ban, Dwomoh has been fined £2,500 and ordered to complete an educational programme. During the hearing, he claimed he "did not mean to be racist" and that his comments were intended to "lighten the mood." He asserted the situation escalated beyond his control, citing his British-Indian girlfriend and past jokes about skin colour as evidence of his non-malicious intent. He also suggested the victim was exploiting the situation.

Watford reported the incidents to authorities and supported the sanction. Dwomoh is now reported to be close to a move to Turkish club Konyaspor in the Süper Lig, a transfer expected to be finalised in the coming weeks.
