One‑year deal locks Everton captain Megan Finnigan in place
A one‑year contract extension keeps 28‑year‑old captain Megan Finnigan at Everton’s Toffees, marking her 20th year with the club after joining at nine. The deal was announced on the club’s website this evening, ensuring the leader remains at the heart of the side.
The contract announcement confirmed Finnigan will stay for the upcoming season. It guarantees the captain’s presence as a central figure on and off the pitch.
Finnigan joined Everton at the age of nine, beginning a journey that will reach its 20th year in the 2026/27 season. The milestone underscores two decades of service to the Toffees.
She has already amassed more than 200 senior appearances for Everton. Under the new contract she will continue as the club captain, guiding the side on and off the pitch.
Finnigan was a member of the squad that captured the FA Women’s Super League Spring Series title in 2017.
She also featured in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final in 2020.
Reflecting on the anniversary, Finnigan said, “This will be my 20th year at the Club and that’s special for me.” She added that she would happily spend her entire career at Everton if it remains the right place.
Finnigan hopes the upcoming season will be even more special as she returns from a long‑term injury. “I’m really happy… it is definitely my home,” she said, expressing pride in the club.
The one‑year deal secures Everton’s captaincy and experience for the club moving forward. Further Everton squad news will be announced in due course.
