Newcastle chase Stuttgart's Stiller after €75m Woltemade deal
Newcastle United have set their sights on VfB Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller, whose €36.5 million release clause sits alongside a contract that runs until June 2028. The Magpies previously paid a €75 million fee for Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, underscoring their willingness to invest heavily.
Real Madrid, Juventus and Chelsea have all been linked with Stiller. Manchester United made a last‑minute approach last summer, which Stuttgart rejected, reports.
Newcastle’s interest follows their €75 million acquisition of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart last summer, a deal that highlighted the English club’s appetite for German talent. Woltemade’s transfer set a recent benchmark for the Magpies in the Bundesliga market.
Stiller’s contract runs to June 2028 and includes a €36.5 million release clause. Stuttgart can neutralise this clause by paying €2 million, allowing the club to negotiate a higher transfer fee.
During the 2025/26 season Stiller featured in all 34 Bundesliga matches as Stuttgart secured fourth place and a Champions League return. The Swabian side finished ahead of Hoffenheim, confirming their European ambitions.
Should Stiller depart, Stuttgart have turned their attention to Anderlecht’s 17‑year‑old midfielder Nathan De Cat, with talks already underway. Hoffenheim also vies for the Belgian prospect, intensifying the competition.
Anderlecht expects at least €25 million for De Cat, a figure reflecting his breakthrough season. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal have all shown interest in the youngster, according to reports.
Stiller’s situation illustrates a broader trend of top European clubs deploying substantial release clauses and hefty fees to secure emerging talent. The escalating financial commitments signal a competitive transfer market across the Bundesliga and beyond.
