Mulder predicts Dortmund’s smart move with Joey Veerman

Joey Veerman is on the brink of moving from PSV to Borussia Dortmund, 04 analyst and technical director Youri Mulder. Mulder says the Dutch midfielder fits Dortmund’s style perfectly, and the transfer is expected to be completed soon.

Why Dortmund see Veerman as a fit

The analyst notes that the incoming transfer is part of a new policy at Die Schwarzgelben, the nickname for Dortmund. In an interview with Algemeen Dagblad, Mulder explained that the club’s new technical director wants a specific type of football, which he describes as “echt Joey Veerman‑voetbal”. He adds that the director is “een heel slimme directeur die zijn sporen heeft verdiend”.

Mulder also highlighted the role of Ole Book, the club’s new policy‑maker who arrived from the modest Elversberg. Book’s background, Mulder says, aligns with Dortmund’s emphasis on positional play and ball possession, making Veerman’s passing range and stamina a natural match for the team’s philosophy.

According to Mulder, Veerman excels at “geweldig passen” and possesses “veel loopvermogen”, qualities that suit Dortmund’s approach of playing out from the back and controlling the tempo. The analyst believes the midfielder’s ability to read the game will enhance the side’s fluidity in the final third.

Implications for player and club

Mulder cautions that adapting to the Bundesliga will be a change for Veerman, noting that “het is geen Volendam of de Herdgang” and that the league is “minder warm, het is allemaal wat zakelijker”. He stresses that Veerman must feel comfortable in the squad and perform despite “een paar eikels om je heen”.

Finally, Mulder is enthusiastic about the fan factor, pointing out that Veerman will play in front of “80.000 man” on the famous Gelbe Wand. The move promises to give the Dutch international a larger stage while providing Dortmund with a player who embodies the club’s tactical vision.
