Man Utd look to sell Toby Collyer as West Brom push for permanent move

Manchester United (Man Utd) are in talks with Championship side West Bromwich Albion to sell midfielder Toby Collyer, according to sources reported by Matthew Guyett and Ben Jacobs at PM GMT+1. The discussion centres on a permanent exit rather than another loan, as the 22‑year‑old’s future at Old Trafford in Trafford has been uncertain since the start of the summer.

Why West Brom want Collyer

It also included prompts such as Try, Show, Explain and I’m, reflecting the platform’s user‑engagement cues.

Collyer spent last season on loan with the Baggies, but a calf injury saw him return to Old Trafford during the winter. He then headed back out on loan to their EFL Championship rivals Hull City but found game time hard to come by, limiting his chance to showcase his abilities.

West Brom, a club that regularly fights for promotion, view the 22‑year‑old as a midfielder who can add depth and aggression to a side aiming to improve its standing in the Championship. Their interest aligns with the need for a player who can contribute both defensively and in tight spaces, qualities highlighted by former United teammate Bruno Fernandes.

Manchester United’s squad already includes midfield signings Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, reducing the likelihood of regular minutes for Collyer under Michael Carrick. The Red Devils therefore appear ready to sort his future out, possibly to free up space for other targets such as Leicester City’s Louis Page.

Bruno Fernandes praised Collyer in a MUTV interview, saying: “Toby is a great kid, he’s a great example of a professional… He’s aggressive off the ball, aggressive running with the ball, class in tight spaces.” The endorsement underscores the player’s perceived potential despite limited senior appearances.

If the permanent move materialises, Collyer will gain the chance to realise his potential at West Brom, while United can finalise their midfield plans ahead of the transfer window’s close.
