Janssen and Derksen demand Koeman’s exit as Dutch side lacks bite
In a heated studio conversation aired at 18:52, former Dutch internationals Theo Janssen and Johan Derksen argued that Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman is unlikely to continue, insisting the Dutch side lacks the winning mentality required to succeed in the upcoming fixtures.
Janssen criticised the overall quality of play, saying the football was simply not good. He added, “The system is one thing, but what a team wants to convey matters more; I did not see that signal.”
Derksen pointed to the team's fear of Morocco, describing a timid approach. He remarked, “They were a bit in the underdog position. Show some courage – I have been saying that all week.”
Rob Jansen, the coach’s representative, disclosed that Koeman wishes to enter talks and that a meeting is scheduled for Tuesday. This suggests an evaluation of the coach’s position is imminent.
Janssen echoed the sentiment that Koeman stepping down would be the best outcome. He noted that Rob Jansen had indicated receiving a message about an upcoming evaluation.
Derksen expects Koeman to resign voluntarily, stating he never supports dismissing a trainer after a single defeat. He warned that Koeman will face Dutch newspapers and former player Valentijn Driessen’s criticism.
