Huddersfield's comeback rattles Hull FC as Giants turn tide

George Flanagan's decisive try in the second half gave Huddersfield Giants a 22‑16 win over Hull FC, sealing a remarkable comeback. The victory marked the Giants’ second straight success in the Betfred Super League. It also moved the bottom‑placed side to within two points of the visitors.

The match opened with an early try from Chris Patolo, who took an inside pass and powered over the line to give Huddersfield a 4‑0 lead. Patolo’s strike set the tone for the Giants’ early momentum.

Hull FC quickly responded when Jake Arthur delivered a pass to Joe Batchelor, whose cross produced the visitors’ first try. Davy Litten added a second try and Zak Hardaker converted both, taking the half‑time score to 10‑6 in Hull’s favour.

Soon after the break, Connor Wrench grounded a hacked‑through kick to restore Huddersfield’s hopes with a try. Litten answered quickly with his second try and Hardaker added another goal, pushing Hull back into a 16‑12 lead.

Lewis Jagger then levelled the scores, diving at the right corner after a pass from George Flanagan. Flanagan, who had already kicked three goals, completed the comeback with a decisive try, giving Huddersfield a 22‑16 lead they held to the final whistle.

The win was Huddersfield’s second consecutive victory and only their fourth Betfred Super League triumph of the campaign. It moved the bottom‑placed side to within two points of Hull FC, while Hull’s losing run stretched to seven games, though they remain just ahead in the table.

Huddersfield head coach Jim Lenihan told BBC Radio Leeds, “It was good to win a game when we didn’t play good… we had a little bit of belief to fight through and find a way at the end.” Hull FC interim head coach Andy Last said, “To lose that game in the manner that we did is really disappointing… discipline is a big issue for us.”
