Fleetwood's three-year gamble on ex-Wrexham midfielder Andy Cannon

Fleetwood Town have signed former Wrexham midfielder Andy Cannon on a three‑year deal, bringing the 30‑year‑old to the League Two side after his release by the Welsh club at the end of last season. Cannon, who has amassed 330 senior appearances across several English clubs, joins Fleetwood with ambitions to help the team push for promotion.

Cannon, 30, was released by the Welsh club at the close of the season and arrives on a three‑year contract. He has logged 330 senior appearances, featuring for Rochdale, Portsmouth, Hull City and Stockport County among others.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Burton Albion, adding valuable League Two experience ahead of his permanent move.

"The gaffer wants to be successful, so do I. He's got ambitions, I've got ambitions. I feel we can work together and hopefully have a successful season," Cannon told the Fleetwood website, underscoring his shared drive with the manager.

A product of Rochdale's academy, Cannon made his first‑team debut in 2014 and quickly became a key figure at Spotland, the club's home ground.

He transferred to Portsmouth in January 2019, where he spent two years before moving to Championship side Hull City, further broadening his experience at a higher level.

In December 2022, Cannon joined Wrexham and played an important role during one of the club's most successful periods, helping them secure three consecutive promotions, climbing from the National League to the Championship.

For Fleetwood, Cannon brings a wealth of experience and a clear ambition to aid a League Two side aiming for promotion, while the midfielder secures a stable three‑year platform to continue his career after his release.
