Arsenal’s £1m bid pushes Igor Tyjon to demand contract cancel
Arsenal have tabled a £1 million upfront offer, plus £2 million in add‑ons, for Blackburn Rovers youth striker Igor Tyjon, who has formally asked the club to cancel his contract so the move can be completed. The 18‑year‑old, who declined a professional deal and is currently not training or playing, hopes an independent panel will approve the de‑registration.
James McNicholas of The Athletic Arsenal, often referred to as the Gunners, have launched a protracted pursuit of Blackburn Rovers youth striker Igor Tyjon, submitting several bids despite the club's refusal to sell. The North London side view the 18‑year‑old as a promising attacking option for the future.
Scholarship extension stalls professional deal
Tyjon has turned down a professional contract with Blackburn Rovers, prompting the club to extend his scholarship into a third year, an uncommon step in academy football. Typically, scholarships last two years before a player either signs professionally or departs.
£1m upfront offer
RoversXtra, writing for Medium, disclosed that Arsenal’s current proposal amounts to £1 million upfront with an additional £2 million in performance‑related add‑ons. The same source noted that Tyjon had no alternative but to accept the scholarship extension after Blackburn activated an option in his existing deal this summer.
A photo posted by Tyjon on Instagram shows him without club training gear, underscoring his current inactivity. Alan Nixon the striker has formally asked Blackburn Rovers to de‑register him, aiming to finalise his move to Arsenal. The request will be examined by the Professional Football Negotiating and Consultative Committee, a process that could take several weeks.
If the panel approves the de‑registration, Arsenal stand to add a highly rated striker to their ranks without paying a transfer fee. Conversely, Blackburn Rovers would lose a youth prospect they have invested in, while retaining the scholarship arrangement until a resolution is reached.
