Max Dowman breaks Premier League record at 16 years old

🇬🇧 28 May 2026

Max Dowman made his Premier League debut for Arsenal against Everton on May 24. At 16 years and 144 days, he became the youngest ever starter in competition history.

The teenager started under manager Mikel Arteta in the final matchweek of the season. Arsenal fielded a heavily rotated squad for the 1-0 win at Goodison Park.

Dowman replaced Gabriel Jesus in the 63rd minute. The forward wore the number 49 shirt during the match.

The previous record was held by Harvey Elliott, who debuted at 16 years and 30 days for Fulham in 2019. Dowman surpasses that mark by 114 days.

Arteta’s squad rotation included 10 changes from the previous league game. Dowman was one of three academy players named in the starting XI.
