Álex Forés rejects Sporting, joins Burgos after Villarreal deal
Álex Forés, the leading striker linked with Sporting, has confirmed he will spend the 2024‑25 season with Burgos after turning down the Gijón club, despite a reported offer from Villarreal’s “Submarino Amarillo” worth just over €500,000 and a tempting proposal to join Nicolás Larcamón’s side.
Killer Asturias first reported the move and La Nueva España later confirmed the exclusive interest and offer that the rojiblancos presented to Villarreal and the player.
El acuerdo with the Submarino Amarillo was set at just over half a million euros, and a good offer was on the table for Forés to join Nicolás Larcamón’s side.
Forés turns down Sporting, opts for Burgos as striker market tightens
After several days weighing his options, Forés decided to sign for Burgos, opting for the project the club presented over the Sporting proposal.
El propio José Riestra, president of Sporting, confirmed the contacts on Wednesday during a visit to Covadonga, saying the club has been following the player for a long time, tried to sign him last December and hopes “soon we can have the proper name”.
Sporting now must continue exploring options to reinforce the attack and find a “hierarchy” striker to replace the departing Jonathan Dubasin.
Carlos Tamargo and Andrés Menéndez reported the story, noting the implications of the striker’s decision for both clubs.
