Ronaldinho signs with Serie C club Ravenna, fitness concerns

🇮🇹

Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, 46, will officially join Italian Serie C side Ravenna as a shareholder on Tuesday in Miami, with the club confirming his signature but limiting his on‑field involvement to an upcoming friendly match later this month due to fitness concerns.

In 2015 Ronaldinho announced his retirement from professional football after a brief spell with Brazilian club Fluminense. The decision marked the end of a career that had included stints at FC Barcelona, Paris Saint‑Germain and AC Milan. Eleven years later he is preparing to return to the sport.

Speaking to La Dello Sport, Ronaldinho said, “New colours, same smile. I can’t wait to dance with the ball again and write a new chapter.” He added that football has always been a source of joy and that he wants to bring that spirit to Ravenna. He expressed confidence that his experience will inspire the squad.

Ravenna vice‑chairman Ariedo Braida told Tuttosport that the 46‑year‑old star is not fit enough to compete in Serie C next season. Braida said, “He is 46, so I wish he were fit enough to play. Dinho was a phenomenon and a fantastic player.” He confirmed that Ronaldinho will participate in a marketing event but will not feature in league matches.

Tuttosport also reported that Ronaldinho is expected to take part in a friendly match for Ravenna in the near future. The club plans to use the exhibition to showcase the former world champion’s presence. No competitive appearances are scheduled for the upcoming season.

As a shareholder, Ronaldinho’s involvement could boost Ravenna’s profile and attract sponsorship, even if his playing time remains limited.
