Alexia Putellas announced her departure from FC Barcelona. The 32‑year‑old midfielder ends a fourteen‑season spell with the Catalan club.

During her time at Barcelona she collected ten domestic league titles, ten domestic cups and four UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies. She also secured two Ballon d’Or awards as the world’s best female player.

On Saturday Barcelona captured the Champions League again, defeating OL Lyonnes 4‑0. The victory marked the club’s fourth European crown in Putellas’ tenure.

In an Instagram video Putellas said, “We have taken the women’s team further than we ever dared to dream.” She added, “In the beginning footballer was not even recognised as a profession. Now I only feel the privilege of having been part of this unique transformation.”

Putellas also featured in Spain’s 2023 World Cup‑winning squad. The triumph gave her a global title alongside her club successes.

She thanked Barça supporters and club staff for their backing and described her time as “a beautiful and unique transformation.” Her next step remains unspecified.
