Westerlo Women Play Final Super League Match Against Gent
The women's team of KVC Westerlo will finish the season with a home match against AA Gent on Saturday. It will also be their last appearance in the Belgian Super League, ending a two‑season spell at the top level.
Westerlo announced that it will withdraw its women's side from the highest division. The decision means the club will no longer field a team in the Super League after the season ends.
The club confirmed that the withdrawal will take effect immediately after the final match. Consequently, the upcoming game against AA Gent will be the Kemphanen's farewell to the league.
The women's team entered the Super League two years ago. At that time, the club believed participation would include European football opportunities.
That belief turned out to be a misunderstanding about European competition. The misinterpretation marked the beginning of the venture that is now concluding.
The Saturday fixture at the Kemphanenstadion will be the last home game for Westerlo women in the Super League. Fans will witness the end of a brief but notable chapter in Belgian women's football.
