Royal Antwerp FC Dismisses Joseph Oosting for Second Time This Season

🇧🇪 17 May 2026

Joseph Oosting has been dismissed as head coach of Royal Antwerp FC with immediate effect. The club announced that Faris Haroun will take charge for the final two league matches of the season. The decision comes after a string of defeats.

Oosting, a Dutch manager, was appointed by Antwerp at the end of November, joining a staff that includes technical director Marc Overmars. His tenure lasted less than six months before the club terminated the contract.

The dismissal marks the second time this season that the 54‑year‑old coach has lost his job. In early September he was sacked by FC Twente after just four league games, having previously managed RKC Waalwijk.

Antwerp’s recent form has been poor, with a 3‑0 loss to OH Leuven on Friday evening in the second phase of the competition for a Conference League spot. The defeat followed two consecutive losses in the league.

The Belgian side currently sit in eleventh place, a disappointing position after winning the 2023 Belgian Pro League under Mark van Bommel. The drop in performance has prompted the board to act swiftly.

Marc Overmars, Antwerp’s technical director, confirmed the club will not continue with Oosting into the next season. The announcement emphasized the immediate termination and the interim role of Haroun.

Looking ahead, Antwerp will aim to stabilize under Haroun’s guidance and try to improve their league standing before the season ends.
