Zidane ignores the Red Devils, Degryse points to French nonchalance

At the King Baudouin Stadium, where the Red Devils are preparing for their next match, VTM analyst Marc Degryse sat enthralled watching the new French national coach Zinedine Zidane. The coach seemed solely concerned with his own France, an impression Degryse could not ignore.

Zidane’s selection and the bench

Zidane chose a striking bench with Ousmane Dembélé, Rayan Cherki, Michael Olise, Jules Koundé and other young talents. Olise was explicitly on the bench, a choice that raised questions about the possible underestimation of the Red Devils.

Degryse described the attitude of the French national coach as nonchalant and said: “He is great, and thinks that everyone else is a bit less.” He added that Zidane is not that interested in the Belgians.

Zidane responded briefly when he was asked about the Red Devils and said: “They have played a very good World Cup. There is a huge amount of individual quality in the squad and also something collective. It will certainly be a tough match.”

“It is his personality. He is great, and thinks that everyone else is a little less,” Degryse repeated after the interview, thereby emphasizing the impression of a confident, almost arrogant coach.

Former Real Madrid star Gert Verheyen praised Zidane: “He is brilliant and one of the greatest players of his generation.”

After a long ordeal with injuries, Roméo Lavia has finally secured a first‑team starting spot with the Red Devils.

Mark van Bommel, thanks to his links with Arsenal and Liverpool, has brought the Red Devils directly under his influence.
