Zidane erupts on the touchline after Olise's Nations League winner

Zinedine Zidane’s footballing instincts took over on Monday night when Michael Olise netted a late winner, giving France a 1-0 victory over Belgium in the Nations League. The Bayern Munich winger’s strike prompted the former Real Madrid star‑turned‑manager to burst into a wild celebration on the touchline.

Olise's solo strike

Olise received a flicked pass from Rayan Cherki deep inside his own half, controlled it on his chest and immediately accelerated towards the Belgian box. Brushing off Maxim De Cuyper, he kept his balance, cut inside onto his left foot and curled the ball into the bottom corner as he entered the penalty area.

The finish came in the 87th minute, sealing France’s win. After the goal he wheeled to the corner flag, while the camera crew from Getty captured the ensuing chaos.

Zidane sprinted down the side of the pitch, roaring with delight, and booted a ball that lay on a cone, sending it flying while shouting in joy. The former legend‑player could not contain his excitement as the ball hit the net.

He later explained the outburst: “I went along with the play and I wanted to be part of it. I sensed he was off on a dribble and he made an exceptional play, so I wanted to follow him. Then I saw the ball there and I told myself I had to shoot it. It might be a little bit ridiculous, but it doesn’t matter.”

Zidane hails Olise

“He is an extraordinary talent,” Zidane said, adding, “I love this type of player. When he plays, he wants to entertain the fans. He has a great sense of the game, anticipates the opponent’s movements, and knows when to attack and when to drop back.”

Olise has a goal and an assist in his two appearances under the new France manager. He provided an assist against Turkey in Zidane’s first match and then scored the winner against Belgium in his second.
