Yann Sommer faces Inter in Bruges, an emotion‑laden duel

Yann Sommer, goalkeeper of Club Brugge, will face his former team, Inter Milan, on Tuesday evening at 21 h00 in the second matchday of the Champions League. The Swiss, 37 years old, returns against the Nerazzurri, clear favourites of the match, after leaving Milan this summer.

Career and successes of Sommer

The Swiss goalkeeper joined Club Brugge, nicknamed the Blauw en Zwart, this summer after three seasons at Inter Milan. With the Nerazzurri, he won two Serie A titles (2024 and 2026), one Coppa Italia (2026) and one Supercoppa Italiana (2023). He was also a Champions League finalist in 2025, when Inter lost 5‑0 to PSG. In total, Sommer played 139 matches for Inter, keeping a clean sheet 66 times.

Sommer vs Inter

Sommer said that Inter were clearly the favourites, but that “football remains football” and that he knew his team’s qualities. At 37, he highlighted the presence of younger, less‑experienced players who could become an asset. “We are well prepared and it will be an interesting match,” he added.

Club Brugge will have to deliver a perfect performance to hope for points. “We learn from each match, we delivered a good performance but made some mistakes,” the goalkeeper recalled. He stressed the need for perfection in the Champions League and said he wants to deliver a better performance.

“Yes, I am an emotional player and it will inevitably be a special moment,” Sommer admitted when talking about the duel against his former team. He nevertheless said he remains focused on the match and his team’s play.

“I have experienced many wonderful moments here, the city, the supporters, the stadium… Incredible. But tomorrow, I will be on the other side. It will be interesting, I can’t wait to be there,” the goalkeeper concluded.

The match will be broadcast live on .be at 21 h00 this Tuesday. A win or a point would be crucial for Club Brugge in the second matchday of the Champions League.
