Yamal’s third straight Kopa win rewrites the record books

The Ballon d'Or (Bola de Ouro) ceremony in Paris glimmered as Lamine Yamal stepped onto the stage, the 19‑year‑old Spanish (Espanha) sensation poised to collect yet another accolade. Amid flashing cameras, the Esporte News Mundo broadcast announced his triumph as the 2026 Kopa Trophy winner.
The Kopa Trophy, which honours the world’s best young player, was presented at the same event that celebrated the Ballon d’Or. Yamal led the voting for the third consecutive year, having secured the prize in 2024, 2025 and now 2026.
Historic third Kopa triumph
At just 19, Yamal became the first footballer ever to win the Kopa three times in a row. His dominance over rivals Cubarsí, Diomandé, Zaïre‑Emery, Manzambi and Bouaddi underscored an unprecedented achievement in international football.
