Yamal's double lifts him above Gerrard, Hazard and Totti in League assists
Lamine Yamal's two assists in Barcelona's 4-1 victory over Galatasaray on Tuesday night have propelled the 19‑year‑old past Steven Gerrard, Eden Hazard and Francesco Totti in the Champions League assist rankings, cementing his place among the competition's elite playmakers.
Record‑breaking night in Istanbul
The Spanish side's win featured Yamal providing a brace, his second assist taking his tournament tally to 13. That figure puts him level with Philipp Lahm, Deco and Andriy Shevchenko, all of whom recorded the same number of assists in Europe’s premier club competition.
Early start to a stellar career
Yamal registered his first Champions League assist in December 2023, just six games after his debut and at the age of 16. Since that early contribution, he has steadily accumulated assists, quickly eclipsing several established stars.
Steven Gerrard, a 2005 Champions League winner with Liverpool, amassed 12 assists from 73 appearances in the tournament. Yamal has already surpassed that total, highlighting the magnitude of his early achievements.

Eden Hazard, who lifted the trophy with Real Madrid in his penultimate season, also finished his European career with 12 assists, the majority coming during his spells at Chelsea. Yamal now exceeds Hazard’s tally.
Francesco Totti, the Roma legend who featured 57 times in the competition, recorded 12 assists as well. Yamal’s 13 assists therefore place him ahead of the former Italian great.
Joining the likes of Lahm, Deco and Shevchenko, Yamal joins a select group of players who have reached double‑digit assists before turning 20, underscoring his extraordinary start.
