Yamal brushes off criticism, says WK win won’t silence him, focus stays on team
Lamine Yamal insists that criticism will not affect him even if he wins the WK, saying he does not expect people to comment on a lack of goals. He added that his focus remains on the team’s progress to the next round of the tournament.
Last season Yamal found the net sixteen times for FC Barcelona in the Spaanse competitie. In the current WK campaign he has managed only a single goal. The contrast has drawn criticism from observers.
"Het frustreert me echt niet als ik niet scoor," Yamal told the Spaanse pers. "Ik heb het EK gewonnen door één doelpunt te maken," he said. "Als ik het WK win, denk ik niet dat mensen er iets van zullen zeggen als ik niet scoor," he added.
Yamal said he is happy simply if the team advances. He emphasized that the most important thing is the collective effort and reaching the next round.
His dismissal of criticism underscores a confidence that could bolster Spain’s WK campaign. With the focus on team progression, the result may shape expectations for the remainder of the tournament.
