Xabi Alonso lauds Pedro Neto after extension ahead of Hull clash

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso praised Portuguese winger Pedro Neto after the player signed a new deal until 2032, saying the international will give his all in the upcoming Premier League clash with Hull City on Saturday. Alonso added that Neto's versatility and work‑rate make him vital as the Blues seek to improve defensively.

Neto's new deal and praise

Alonso explained that Neto's contract runs to 2032, reflecting the club's long‑term faith in the winger. He highlighted Neto's ability to operate on the flank and cut inside, describing him as strong in one‑on‑one situations and capable of scoring. "He has a fantastic work rate and links well with his teammates," the Spanish coach said.

Alonso also stressed that Neto's versatility fits Chelsea's ambition to tighten the defence across the pitch. He said the team must become more competitive and balanced, improving both attack and defensive solidity. "We want to be as good or even better in attack while keeping a strong defensive foundation," he added.

Hull City pose a defensive test

Hull City sit third in the Premier League table with seven points and have yet to concede a goal, making them a tough opponent for the Blues on Saturday.

Alonso warned that Hull possess dangerous transition play and set‑piece routines. He noted their confidence and the excellent work of their coach, adding that the Tigers will fight hard to maintain their Premier League status. "They deserve to be where they are and will be difficult to beat," he said.

The manager also praised the rapid adaptation of Morgan Rogers, who has integrated quickly into the London side. Alonso described the signing as part of a deliberate strategy to bring in players ready to make an immediate impact. "He has settled very well and his arrival has been fantastic for the squad," the coach remarked.

Looking ahead, Alonso acknowledged the challenge ahead, insisting Chelsea must be at their best to secure three points. He concluded that the match will test the team's defensive improvements and overall balance, key factors in their pursuit of a higher league finish.
